Newark Peace Education Summit
The historic three-day event, organized by Tibet House U.S. and Drew Katz, brought together His Holiness the Dalai Lama with 60 distinguished speakers from around the world, including three Nobel Laureates, to explore non-violent methods for conflict resolution.
mission
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, together with leading international and national peacemakers, community leaders, policy makers, business leaders and grassroots activists, examined, refined, and communicated best practices for bringing about positive social, economic and personal change benefiting communities at home and abroad.
Making Peace
Newark's ongoing efforts to reduce violence was one reason it was the peace summit's venue. Hosted by U.S. Senator from New Jersey, Cory A. Booker, then Mayor of Newark, the summit explored non-violent methods for conflict resolution and how these methods have been put into practice throughout history and around the world, and how they can be applied in cities like Newark and other communities that have been impacted by rampant violence.
